On the Twelfth Day of Christmas

Christmas comes to an end.

It is always bittersweet as things wind down.

Most of my friends have already packed their Christmas things away

and some are still celebrating

The one last thing that we try to do as a family

is write down our New Year's resolutions.

We seal them in an envelope

and tuck them away into our Christmas stockings.

Then next Christmas

we retrieve them along with the other goodies

that have been left by Santa

and see if we were able to accomplish a few goals.

Some are forgotten

Some are disappointment's

but for the most part
it is just a lot of fun!

So after spending the morning at the church

doing a little volunteer work

I met up with an old friend for coffee.

It was wonderful sitting there,

catching up,

chatting,

planning vacations,

blowing caution to the wind

ignoring our responsibilities,

until

we realized four hours had passed,

the family would be home soon

and dinner must get started.

We scattered like wild Indian's

running in our separate directions

to beat everyone home to look busy

and be none the wiser.

Yes, a fun, sneaky, lazy girls day out!

If you're anything like us our dance card has been a bit full with

Christmas parties, staff parties, dessert parties, church parties and neighborly socials.

I love this time of year, and I love to socialize.

But as with anything, time to spare is at a premium.

I found this wonderful recipe for

Sparkling Cranberry Brie Bites

from

Yummy Mummy by way of Pinterest.

Don't they look scrumptuous?

Very simple to make

makes about 16

Sugared Cranberries

2 cups fresh cranberries

1 cup good maple syrup

1 cup granulated sugar

Rinse cranberries and place in a medium bowl. Heat syrup in a small sauce pan just until warm. Pour over cranberries when syrup is warm, not hot, or cranberries may pop. Cool, cover, and let soak in the refrigerator overnight.

Drain cranberries in a colander. Place sugar in a large bowl or baking dish. Add cranberries in 2 batches and roll around until lightly coated in sugar. Place on a baking sheet until dry, about 1 hour.

16 crackers

8 oz Brie cheese

cranberry chutney or cranberry relish

fresh mint for garnish

Assemble crackers with one slice of brie, a light layer of cranberry chutney, and 4 or 5 sugared cranberries. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs.

I find it is adversity that

gathering, sorting and sewing

One of my favorite Easter memories as a child is of

some sugared eggs I received one year in my basket.

The little picturesque scene was just enchanting.

I would stare at it for what seemed like hours.

It was on my night stand while I slept,

on the dinner table as I ate,

and I would wrap it ever so gently in my purse and carry it with me.

And then Easter passed,

the candy was ate

and I tucked it in my drawer to save for the next year.

UNTIL

the trail of ants led my mother to it (yikes)

No longer a pretty picture!

I hope your Easter is filled with sweet "child-like" memories

that you will carry with you for a life time!

Bunny Business

Chocolate Easter bunnies are an Easter basket staple,

and homemade are even more fun!

What you will need:

* Chocolate ~ Pick your own chocolate ~ milk, dark or white

* Bunny Molds ~ Craft store, online or favorite kitchen supply store

* Paper Clips

And let the fun begin!

1. Melt the chocolate according to directions. Microwaves are fine but I prefer to use a double broiler for even melting.

2. Carefully pour chocolate into both halves of the mold. You may need to tip the mold to get an even coat in all of the little details of the bunny's features. Let this layer set for a while. Then pour more chocolate inside until you reach the top of the mold. Let them sit for a second or two so when you put both halves together you don't get an oozing chocolate mess.

3. Clip the molds together and let them set to harden. You can place them in the freezer to speed up the process, and it makes it easier to remove the molds.

4. Once set, remove from the mold, use a sharp knife to trim off any excess chocolate and WAHLAH! Some delightfully, tasty, rascally rabbits to call your own ;0)

Well yesterday was a typical Sunday

right up until the time church started.

After Sunday school darling hubby promised to save a seat

as I finished gabbing with my fellow teacher friends.

As I entered the church and headed to the same location we have been sitting in for more than 15 years he was no where to be found.

I stopped still in my tracks.

This is where we always sit.

Where could he be?

Who could he be talking to?

I thought I lost him.

And there he was half way across the church on the otherside.

me - what are you doing over here?

dh - this is where we are sitting

me- why? we sit over there

dh - not today there's no room

me - well huff!

dh - you can't hear over here?

me - I suppose

(giggles were exchanged)

Is there anyone else out there that has their own seating area?

Am I alone here?

I'm such a creature of habit

So church begins and I'm still a little disorientated

but as always I love to people watch.

NOW I know there has to be someone with me on this one!

If you go to my church

and you have a new haircut or a new pair of shoes

I am bound to notice.

Yep I am "one of those"

It's hereditary ~ my father's side (ha)

I listen, I pay attention, I promise.

Because sure as the world someone will ask me something

and I sure would have hated to miss it ;0)

Well it wasn't before long darling hubby noticed my head is no longer turning ~ it was stuck;

fixated in one spot

A Day of Remembrance

Today my darling sweet hubby and I

celebrate 11 years of marriage

It all started when a mutual friend

passed a note to a some-what shy boy and said

"call this girl and ask her out"

He did and the girl said "yes"

Each day still feels like our first date

I still get butterflies in my stomach when he walks into a room

and feel strength when he holds my hand

He never forgets a birthday or anniversary

is a wonderful father, provider and best friend

He always spoils me with flowers, little notes of love

and sweet little gifts

for no reason at all

I am truly blessed and honored to be his wife

~ forever ~

Although September 11th is a day of celebration for us

we will always remember how we spent our second anniversary

praying for those less fortunate

we will never forget

we will always pray

we will always remember those that were lost

and we will always feel blessed

Thank you sweet boy for calling ME!

Berries and Shortcake, Oh My!

Frozen Berry Angel Shortcake

Ingredients

1 Angel Food Cake

Raspberry Extract

Liquid red food color

2/3 cup strawberry topping

3 cups slightly softened lowfat strawberry ice cream or frozen yogurt

2 cups thawed lite whipped topping

Fresh strawberries or raspberries

Recipe Preparation

1. Prepare your favorite Angel Food cake recipe with these changes:

Line the bottom of a 9x3 inch springform pan with nonstick foil, then attach the sides of the pan. Substitute raspberry extract for the vanilla in Step 3 and add 3 drops liquid red food color with the extract. Spread prepared pan and bake as directed. Cool the cake completely, in pan, upside down on a wire rack. To loosen cake, run a thin-bladed knife around side of pan, remove pan sides. Invert cake and remove pan bottom.

2. To assemble shortcake:

Using a serrated knife, cut cake into 2 layers. Place bottom layer, cut side up, on pan bottom and spread with 1/3 cup strawberry topping. Spoon 3 cups slightly softened lowfat strawberry icecream or frozen yogurt over topping. Spread another 1/3 cup strawberry topping over icecream/yogurt. Top with remaining cake layer, cut side down. Freeze at least 4 hours or overnight. (Once the cake is frozen, it can be wrapped and stored in freezer up to 2 weeks).

3. To serve:

Transfer frozen cake to a serving plate. Frost with 2 cups thawed lite whipped topping. Decorate with strawberries or raspberries. Refrigerate 30 minutes to soften slightly before serving

So we have been doing a little shopping

we've outgrown our space

The price is incredible

but the commute ~ ahhh not so great

but we're thinking.....

but more space is definitely in our future

Well I don't know what her name is exactly

but for a week that is what I called her

My dear friend Mary commissioned me to quilt this very special quilt she made for a very special someone.

So for a week Miss Whoozit and I played....

more leaves, flowers, branches and vines

and feathers on her sweet little body

but mostly.....a LOT of leaves

(I guess you got that right?)

Summer is coming to an end

School will be starting next week

The leaves are already falling

My all time favorite birthday cake when I was a little girl

was one my Grandmother made for me

when I turned 5.

Strawberry ~ yumm!

My sweet daughter Billie so enjoys

recreating this special childhood memory for me

Pink Saturday and some Pie!

Easy Cherry Pie

Ingredients

2 packages Pillsbury Pie Crust
3 cup(s) canned, drained tart cherries
1 cup(s) fresh raspberries
1 1/4 cup(s) sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup(s) cornstarch
1/8 tsp salt
5 tsp cold butter divided

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Cut eight 6-inch circles from the two packages of Pillsbury Pie Crusts. Fit five 4 1/2-inch mini pie pans with 5 dough rounds. Cut 2 1/4-inch stars from center of remaining 3 dough rounds; set aside.

2. Combine cherries with raspberries; then stir in sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, cornstarch and salt.

3. Pour filling into prepared pie pans; dot each pie with 1 tsp cold butter. Cover 3 pies with reserved dough circles, crimp edges. Top 2 remaining pies with star cutouts. Bake pies until filling is bubbling, 35 to 40 minutes.
